It was SO cool! I had never been to the taping of a TV show before, I found it fascinating! We sat way up on Friday night, but got in a pretty good area Sunday. We couldn’t see the letter board either day, though, so we watched the big TV screens they had in the corners. They had a lady coaching the contestants on how to spin the wheel. (Yes, it was THE wheel- they said it’s the only one and they guard it like gold!) It’s very heavy, but not as big as I thought it would be. It looks huge on TV. It takes two weeks to prepare for the show, setting up all the stuff and such. The little special signs on it are magnetic. After each game the contestants go down and face away from the stage while the crew changes the letter board and the new prizes on the wheel. All the stage crew wears black, so you really don’t see them.
During the “commercial†breaks they would play the teasers of the city, and sometimes Pat or Vanna would talk with the audience. But when the stage manager said “goâ€, everything started. And they warned us repeatedly NOT to shout out the answers. Or even whisper them, as when 3500 people whisper the same thing, it’s rather obvious…. If someone did, they would have to start all over and the people would lose any money they might have won.
During the time between the taping of the shows (we saw two Friday night and three Sunday afternoon) the announcer guy “Charlie†would come out and talk with us and answer questions. Pat and Vanna would go back and change clothes (gotta look like two different days). On Sunday the showed a highlight tape, which was hysterical. Some of the winners were quite funny!
They also gave away door prizes! A Sony 6.0 megapixel digital camera. Needless to say, I didn’t win one. Bummer. But Friday night they did give away little LED collar pins to everyone. They’re pretty neat.
The theater set-up was very nice, too. Very Texas…. Life-size horses in the corners with a skyline of Dallas in the background at sunset. They even had the little blinkie airplane warning lights on the buildings.
We were seated by one of the large camera booms on Sunday. I did see myself once on the monitors- I will have to tape the shows and see what they look like being aired. (I’m not home in time to see it. Friday’s show taped is supposed to be aired Nov 2 & 3, and Sunday’s will be aired Nov 13-14-15.
