I got my first miniature horse in 1984, when I was 43 years old, after wanting them since I first heard about them in the late 70's, but not being able to get any truly correct information then(how many of you know that the AMHA was a 'closed' registry for a short while VERY early on in its existence? Turned out that was a bit premature....!) In '84, I got information that there was a breeder close enough to me for me to actually TRAVEL to, and I did!
I got my first 'own' horse, an little mare from the Arapahoe reservation(or so my father said), when I was nine---56 years ago. She cost Daddy $25. I'd been a 'horse nut' since age 2, when my uncle first set me up on a work mule, but it took me until age nine to 'wear down' my non-horsey parents! In the meantime, I'd ridden a Shetland belonging to a 2nd cousin every summer from age 6-9 when visiting that same uncle and aunt, over near Lubbock."Teddy Bear" had a little yellow wooden cart; every once in a great while, when somebody had the time, they'd hook him up and I got to drive him, too--maybe why I again LOVE driving, today!!
