How would we ask AMHR to put Amateur Halter Obstacle in the Nationals? I know other shows have it including our Area Nationals.

I voted NO, Nationals is quite packed as it is, and I don't see many professionals entering Halter Obstacle due to the amount of time it takes to train.

For sure there should be Youth halter obstacle, and there is... but AMMY??? Don't see the point.

Well I do agree that it is common to have it at local shows and area shows more so then not and those who work hard all year in Ammy would want it.

I have never really shown enough to go for Ammy of the year and I am not sure if those points would count towards that award if the class was offered at Nationals? but again if so I can see why some would want it.

In years past not alot of trainers have bothered with Obstacle however I have seen a definite change in that as many trainers are realizing that there clients really want a all around performance horse

I am an amateur and I enjoy showing in the amateur classes. I understand that there are alot of classes at Nationals. However, when you are trying to get your HOF, or ammy points, it is important. Also, if you want to do performance and your horse is not old enough to jump or drive, obstacle is all ya got and with only obstacle class, it doesn't give us much choice.

I only like doing the 'unglamourous' performance classes, obstacle driving, halter obstacle, hunter, and jumper. I feel like a second-class citizen when shows don't offer me the same chances to show that they do the 'glory' performance classes like country pleasure, pleasure, roadster, etc. There are a LOT of different versions of those classes available, but they don't want to give me even two classes in my obstacle classes (at many local shows, and especially at Nationals). Not having enough chances to go in the ring and show my horse is one of the main reasons that I don't bother with AMHR shows and stick to the AMHA ones. They give me Ammy and Open is all of my classes, including at World.

Heck yeah would I like to see Amateur Halter Obstacle. Here is maybe why you don't see many trainers in that class to begin with. The many days before obstacle even begins you have your halter horses, and your driving horses, and thats the classes most trainers show in. Obstacle is on the very last day! I know for one thing I'm worn out, my horse is worn out, and even tho my horse has done well in Obstacle at local shows, placed 1st under every judge except for 1 (got 2nd), he was so tired he just bombed in obstacle, and I wasn't up my game either.

Also why just halter obstacle, lets do it for obstacle driving as well, its now a HOF class. But if anything add the Amateur Halter Obstacle class.

If you have suggested classes that you would like added to the "R" Nationals you need to send your request to Larry Parnell. That is the person I was told to contact earlier this year about proposal for class additions as he is on the committee.

Don't know if I could do an extra class of halter obstacle. There were 40 in the under class this year and it took 2 hours of standing around the arena for that class - not much fun in that!

My feeling is that really all the classes offered at the qualifying shows should be offered at the National show. But, with some of the "longer" classes (obstacle, liberty...), I can understand why some people feel the horse/handler should have to qualify specifically for that class.

I hadn't realized they weren't, and also didn't realize that you didn't have to qualify for them individually. No wonder they're so big and take so long! LOL

Yes Obstacle, Jumpin/Hunter, and Liberty do tend to take a long time. It's because they have to be individually judged. However, there are some halter classes and driving classes that take up atleast a hour. Whats to say why we shouldn't have to qualify for those classes too.

However, I don't see AMHR making it where we have to qualify for each individual class, like AMHA, anytime soon, especially since the numbers were lower at Nationals then they were last year. I don't see it fly by the exhibitors either.

yes, yes, yes!!! Here is a thought, Leonard already has the make up arena, right? over by the Parnell/ Excaliber stalls. So when the Am classes are finished in the main arena that afternoon, the Am classes- Halter obstacle and Driving obstacle can just move to the make up arena, set up your course there and move the AM judges over, because the new judge comes in for the Futurity classes in the main arena. Both the Pinto and AMHA run the classes with Futurities and/or other classes going on in another arena at the same time. it is no big deal, we do it all the time with horses showing in both arenas, no biggie...
