    stallion yelling at shows

It takes less of a correction to get their attention if you have a stud chain than if you just have a halter or show halter, the reason for my suggestion. If a horse gets really stupid in a show halter they can break and that is not a good thing in the warm up/holding area. I go through the on...

    Question

Do you have a tractor supply or similar store? You might also check home depot and lowes they have them here but not sure all stores carry them. Karen

    stallion yelling at shows

I keep the barn halter on over the show halter until the last minute. I have one that likes to dig to china while waiting in the holding area annoying but not deafening like the whinnies. What you could try is putting his barn halter over the show halter and adding a stud chain, when he goes to...

    Getting Spanky in Shape :)

You mention he's a boy, but you don't mention whether he's a stallion or a gelding? Some stallions will have a heavier or thicker neck than others. He doesn't look as fat as I expected from your description of him, however color can hide a lot. Do you have any other pictures of him standing...

    need education on martingales

per AMHR Rule book Martingales are optional not mandatory so if you don't need one don't use it. I don't use one when I show and I place well against good competition. Just because "everyone" has one doesn't mean they need to. Karen

    Different styles have different "ideals"

if we all liked the same thing the world would be boring I can add I think that some people don't like the restrictions that the checks and martingales offer. Because lets face it they do restrict what the horse can do with his head. if the horse wants to stretch its back and put its head down...

    Different styles have different "ideals"

My horse does lower level CDE type shows and shows in the Western Country pleasure division at AMHR shows successfully in both. The vet checks are there especially in the hotter months to make sure the horses competing haven't injured themselves and they are physically capable of completing the...

Someone tried to steal gas from our gas tank

As with any place there are good places and bad places of lakeland. My mother lives not to far from there in brandon, and I have friends in lakeland and plant city. Not a bad place and easy to find horse stuff there. In the mean time spend the 10 bucks for a locking gas cap, it does deter...

How to WRAP a neck sweat

Put the throat sweat on, then I wrap in the direction of the mane you just start wrapping and when you get the actual neoprene part you velcro it, You don't want it so loose it comes unwrapped but you don't want to choke him either. remember it will loosen when he puts his head down. I put it so...

Thinking of switching Strategy VS Safe Choice

I use manna pro Show glo for a vitamin pellet, with beet plup or alfalfa cubes, etc if the need more calories. My horses look awesome and I can get the 5lb bag at Tractor supply or my feed store will order it for me. They get half an ounce to an ounce of it a day so it lasts a Long time. My...

    AMHR Amateur Performance Classes

You may be confusing the Hall of Fame points with the all star points in which according to my rule book if I read it right do count for youth and amateur. Karen

    stall guards

I have one thats solid doesn't have the holes for feet to get stuck in and it works great its one like the use for race horses and jumpers. It was awesome when my mare was on stall rest for an injury even though she can get her head over the door this allowed her to look out and see and watch...

Neck sweat-Bumbed it up to get more advice

Just a neck sweat won't help if you don't adjust the diet to keep those extra pounds off. From a competitive stand point, he's way overweight this is a diet and exercise issue. Just like us humans if they ingest more calories than they burn they get fat. Yes I know some get fat on literally...

Please help me fit my harness *Pictures for review*

In my opinion, the breast collar is a hole maybe 2 too high. Your traces may be a hole too short but I am not sure about that, in one picture the shafts look too far forward but in another one they look fine so thats why I stated that. Karen

    Legal AMHR Cart Question

What I would do would be to take the fenders off. It will reduce a little (not a lot) of weight and it will be more accepted but will stand out against the standard black 2 wheeled carts. Its not legal for roadster but legal for Country Pleasure or Western Country Pleasure. Karen
