    DRIVING PEOPLE

Nice horse! The only thing I can offer is your tugs need to be move ahead while you are hooking the horse. I always slide them ahead an inch or two before I wrap them in..that way they move back in line with the backpad. And I would lift your breastcollar a hole or two to take the pull off...

    WARM weather FINALLY

Here in Eastern Ontario we have the usual minus 10 one day and plus 23 2 days later so getting the harness kids started has been a little slow! Oh and FORGET clipping as they tend to freeze LOL... THe above is MiniBrook's Warrior (aka Skipper) his first day of learning to lunge (what a good...

    Driving Problem

IMHO tightening the caveson is the worst mistake most people make. It doesn't teach them to keep their mouths closed and they tend to fight it to get their mouth open. Take your bit a smear it in molasses. Attach it to his halter and leave it on while you are in the barn if you are concerned...

The good news is the mare is okay.

Judy, I got your email and was just sick over this. As mentioned, this foal was the one we were all fighting over! Poor you and poor Pewter. My most sincere condolences to you and Sid and Pewter and give them all a hugs and yourself. I truly hope the rest are ok....my heart just breaks over...

Appy and Me and our new Jerald at the show

Looks great! Get shaft stops (never can figure why they are never sold with these carts). This will elimate the need for the britchin. BEFORE drilling holes in your shafts hitch Appy to the cart and then make marks for the holes. First you need to set the shafts back a bit. When hooking I...

    iluvwalkers, Any updates?

Hey Nikki... Hope you didn't think I was accusing or anything on your other post about horses/shipping etc. I guess when you don't really pay attention to a post until far into it, you get a bell ring to say hmmm, I wonder if mine were on the trailer too? Hopefully your poor filly will be ok...

Nikki... DId in fact these horses come to Ontario (Ottawa area)?? If so my colt was on that trailer, as was another filly who is owned by a friend of mine. My colt was quarantined when he got here, but I would like to make positive that he was not on that trailer. A lady I know lost a filly...

    Harness..

I strongly recommend a britching AND shaft stops with this type of tug (hate them). Yes they do buckle into the extra buckle in the girth. If ordering a harness, ask for a wrap girth which has the extra long strap that you wrap aroud the tugs/shafts. I had that type of tug harness, so I cut...

    Another update on Devon

I was going to call you tonite Danielle.. If that is all he has going on I still think he is extremely lucky considering the very first few hours after the accident where incredibly grim. He is young and strong and I think the progress so far is a testiment to the care, love and prayers of his...

What is your opinion about the long toes seen on some driving horses

Amber... Gee yes I forgot about the look of the movement. and folks let us not forget the rear (engine). Length of stifle is just as important as length of leg or shoulder. If a horse cannot drive off the rear (hence you may square the toe for quicker breakover in the rear) and long toes...

What is your opinion about the long toes seen on some driving horses

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner! Seriously, I remember someone at a show questioning the longer feet and I mentioned that especially on gravel or hard packed surfaces you need to have some cushion. I DO NOT advocate long toes..it does NOTHING for the motion except put a strain on the knees...
