If you guys could send some good thoughts/prayers our way Id really appreciate it. We started giving all our pregnant mares Rhino shots yesterday (not wanting a repeat of last year) Well patches is having a very bad reaction. This is the first time she has been in foal (we never had a stallion tall enough to reach her) and Kyle is so excited about this foal. Now when he gets home I have to tell him shes sick. He has been on cloud 9 about "his" foal and I know when he sees how bad Patches is feeling hes going to be upset. She can hardly walk and has swelling at the injection site. Ran to the vets and got meds for her but I am worried. Vet was just shocked that shes reacting so badly to this.

That is so weird to have a reaction like that. Will think good thoughts and pray for a good update!

wish i could give a good update but shes the same. breaks my heart to see her in pain. The vet and I both think she must be having a reaction to the preservative thimerasol. She had a bad reaction years ago and hasnt had a shot since. Ft dodge had told me not to vaccinate her for at least 3 years and its been 4. My vet and I thought she would be okay since it wasnt an all in one shot but apparently we were both wrong. sometimes no matter what you do its wrong

Kay,

I hope she pulls through with flying colors on this one. Poor girl!

I am so happy to say Patches is better today :aktion033: What a relief. Kyle was out there checking and babying her half the night. Shes moving much better today and the swelling is way down. Thank goodness I didnt give the shot in the neck! The first dose of bute we gave her didnt do a thing but the 2nd dose finally got it under control.

Thank you guys so much for sending those good thoughts!

Hi: So thrilled for you that Patches is doing A-Okay. We had a mare, years ago, have a bad reaction to that same shot and our vet told us to NEVER give her that type of shot again. Some mares are just simply allergic to the shot. So very glad that you had a good outcome. So did we. Ta, Shirlee
