I want to congratulate those of you who supported our new President.

As I sat here listening to Senator McCains gracious concession speach I was reminded of why he was my choice. However as much I wish it had been different I pray that President Obama will be successful in his endeavors to make American even greater than she's always been.

Very nicely said, Donna.......... I am praying also.

I have no doubt whatsoever that he will be a great leader for our country and the world.

And I agree that John McCain was very gracious.

Very well said, Donna, and I feel much as you have expressed.

I hope Obama will prove to be what approximately 52% of the US voters feel he is. I think that the first 6mos of his term will serve as a revelation -- for either those who voted for him or those who did not.

God bless America and our leaders

I agree Donna and Jill!!

When I watched McCain, it squeezed my heart! He is very gracious and an upstanding man in my opinion...

Good luck to Obama . I hope he can accomplish great things.

Congratulations to those who supported him. I hope/pray they are all right.

I will say though, I am very worried about no checks and balances though. I'm worried about National Security big time. I am worried about my healthcare, 401k, my taxes, and my rights when it comes to gun ownership.

I'm very worried about his promises to bankrupt coal industry. In Michigan we have 2 big coal plants underway which will create tons of jobs which this state needs so badly, we have the worst economy in the nation. Now those jobs won't happen.

I hear that his supporters do not even care if he comes through on his promises, just as long as he got in...that makes no sense to me, but oh well! I guess I'm hoping that many of his promises won't happen.

Guess my post turned negative...I tried not to be. Sorry.

Thank you so much Donna. Senetor McCain's speech was wonderful and reminded me of the man I have long admired. He was incredibly gracious, humble and above all, a true servant of this great country...a fine man.

Congratulations and well wishes to our President elect. I am very disappointed but really hope and pray Obama can do what he has promised. I have to say I am very worried for the future, but he will have my support unless he does anything to destroy it.

We have 2 coal fired power plants right here. They started building a 3rd, but for some reason it has been stalled. I just shudder to think what will happen if they are no longer here. It in itself would devastate our economy. Towns close are all between 300 and 1000 people. We would lose jobs, our school would suffer, more foreclosures, people moving to find jobs, little stores closing, there are so many scenarios it is frightening.

Just one thing that I worry about.

But I WILL support him. Nathan I'm with you all the way. I feel like you do.

I thought the job losses were already happening now and small business and plants shutting down and Obama isn't even in office yet? MMMMMMMMM

Great post, Donna.

I agree that McCain was wonderfully gracious and I was also proud that Obama was so upfront in praising McCain and McCain's service in his speech as well. McCain deserves every bit of it! I simply didn't want him as my President, it doesn't mean I don't like the man.

I know I said something similar to that on Brandi's post so thought I'd respond here.

My feeling was, and is, that politicians make whatever type of political promises they have to in order to woo voters. I don't expect a single one of them to be kept by any candidate and do not vote on the issues so much as on the person themselves and whether I feel they will lead in a direction I want to follow. Of course moral issues like reproductive rights and gay marriage and immigration interest me, also education and health care, but specific economic policies and such I put less focus on. So for me I was concerned that the "right" (in my opinion) candidate got into the White House. From there he's going to have a lot of people helping him, a lot of hurdles to overcome, and a lot of his views will probably change as he finds out just how hard this job really is. I can only support him and make sure my voice (and yours!) is heard and hope that he's the man I think he is.

I know many people are very concerned about Obama's expressed policies so it is my hope - believe it or not

- that some of them will be changed to better reflect the wishes of the American people as a whole. I do not believe, for instance, that bankrupting anyone is the way to go!

Why can't we instead work on bringing renewable energy industries to those areas then let the old coal plants fade away on their own? There's got to be a positive way to do all this.

Laura - thank you; and Leia.

While I was out cleaning the barn and wondered what I'd said in my post that was wrong or what I could have said that would have sounded more sincere. I was wondering about it because, at the time I went out, not one of the Obama supporters had bothered to acknowledge the congratulations that were offered by McCain supporters.

I've got to admit that after being so adamant about him being the better candidate, and being so quick to jump not only to his defense but to take issue with anyone who said differently, that I hoped more of the Obama supporters would have appreciated our attempt to reach across the LB aisle. What happened to the gracious winners so many of us talked about and hoped to see?

Sour grapes? Maybe so....think what you will....but I personally am disappointed in a lot of you.

I'm glad the election is over and hopefully we can mend some fences....in the country and here on LB. Even though he wasn't my president of choice I sincerely wish that Obama makes positive changes while he's in office and I do support whoever is in office because that's what Americans should do. Sadly, I'm already seeing locally that some will refuse to support our new pres. One of my patients yesterday(I work in an ER) got so upset about Obama winning that his blood pressure skyrocketed and he had some symptoms of a stroke! We had to drug him to calm him down...he was yelling about God forsaking him and now we have a black, Muslim president. I'm just afraid there's many more like him out there that may try to act on their anger. I pray the Secret Service keeps our new President safe!

I also worry about the "no checks and balances". As always, time will tell. Though I may invest in KY stock...may be going up in the future!

I've deleted my remarks, as comments on this and other threads show that I am a fool for answering honestly and without rancor.

I apologize for taking any positive sentiments seriously. Silly me.

Donna, just a thought but I wonder if people were refraining from commenting because they were afraid that anything they said would come across as gloating or rubbing Republican noses in Obama's victory? I know I waited to post because I was afraid that my joy would come across the wrong way and I didn't want to be insensitive to how supporters of the other candidate might have been feeling.

Minie please don't start adding fuel to the fire. You know EXACTLY what I mean. I did not say today or tomorrow. We are all trying to be nice now and not say things to get anyone fired up. We can still all have our own opinions and be friends. Okay? Let's all get along now.

Well, job losses haven't happened in the small business I own -- however... as the owner, I know that the top 20% of my clients generate 80% of my income and probably take less time each on average than each of the lower 80% of my clients.

If things get too tough and taxing on small businesses, I will let my employees go, scale back my client list AND my 2,500 square feet of office space in the swanky building I lease from. Then, I'll take care of those top 20% by myself. Other businesses will draw similar conclusions. Think how stimulating this will be to the economy IF things are made too taxing and tough on small business.

The bottom line is on a business level, I'm in a position to make things work for ME and I will make them work for ME. I sincerely hope I'm in a position to keep also considering the welfare of my employees but when all is said in done, just like every other person in the country, I have to first consider my family and myself.

Well said Jill. I sincerely hope it never comes to this. But you are so right, we have to look out for ourselves first. She knew I was talking about what could happen and was just trying to start something. I'm just hoping Obama CAN'T pull off a lot of the things he said he would do.

Speaking of keeping things civil....Ahem.

If I couldn't figure out which way she meant that, how could you or anyone else be sure? Try giving people the benefit of the doubt (whether you feel they deserve it or not) and letting it go without comment. Your life would be a lot less stressful.
