Well the deed was done and Hershey still looks the worse for where and not to happy- but muching hay away in his stall. As far as I can tell things went well. So we have added another gelding to the farm :bgrin

A kind thought to an uneventful recover would be appreciated :bgrin

I am sure he is kinda grouchy....

I have a million Q'ssssss

Did you watch?

What did the Vet use to put him out?

How long was he out?

Is there stitches? did they cauterize (sp?) ?

did he bleed alot?

is he bleeding now?

did they give antibiotics? pain killers?

LOL...Do you have pictures???

Having our little guy gelded was so sad. I understand the need for good thoughts. P.J. was kinda moody for a few days too. Think about it, they must have some serious pain. Good thoughts your way.

Thank You for your kind thoughts they must be working because he is looking and feeling a much better eating and drinking and wants out of his stall so bad

: just finished giving him his meds and tucking him in for the night.

I didn't take pictures- kind of sorry I didn't

It was very intresting

1) hershey got his yearly vaccine and a shot of antibiotics and pain meds

2) Hershey got a tranquilizer that made him lay down and then after he laid down he either got more of the same or a different one that put him out cold- snoozing away ( eyes still open- but snored louder than my mastiff.) Kind of makes you take your heart in your hand seeing them sleep like that. Actually the worst part was finding the vein to give the tranquillezer

3) After he was asleep my job was to hold his hoof out of the way and monitor his breathing.

4) Now didn't get to see the full incision but basically saw him cut each teste(sp) out and sew each artiary up(?) and then the Dr used a (sorry about the pun)( looked like a massive nut cracker) that severed the teste from the artary. There was bleeding- but not large amounts pouring out- and very little afterwards so far

5) Dr then washed Hershey up with disinfectant and we waited for Hershey to wake up- we helped him stand and steadied him for a few minuets and walked him into the stall- gave Heshey some hay which he ate almost right away :bgrin

5) there is quite a hole left - needs to heal from the inside out

Heshey was out for a total of maybe 35 minuets maybe 45- kind of forgot to look at the clock- it took Hershey about 2 hours after that to start braying and demanding to be left out of his stall.

He is to remain in his stall for 24 hours( 10x10) so the little guy has room to move- then for the next couple of days 20 minuet hand walks 3x daily

As well as anti-inflamatory drup 1 x daily for the next 4 days

antibiotics 2x daily for the next 10 days

and pain meds 2 x daily for the next 4 days

tomarrow If heshey will let me we can wash his scrotum gently with a warm hose to get rid of the dried blood and stuff

i think if I were to do it again- i would shave hersheys belly from all that long hair because it is hard to see the area well and his hair did soak up a lot of blood- so it would be easier- just to monitor the area if he were shaved - say mid tummy back - kind of like what they do for the mares for ultrasounding.

well hope I answered your questions and i hope I wrote it all down right- tomarrow will tell- but I am sitting her listening to him bray now- so I will take that as another good sign

Tiffany
