I am in desperate need of help! Something happened to my email program. I was trying to delete a bunch of "sent" messages and something happened and my computer basically froze up, and I could not shut it down in any way short of just pushing in and holding the power button. Now I have restarted it many times, and nothing helps, but the problem is that I cannot delete ANYTHING from ANY folder. I cannot empty my Spam folder or my Inbox messages or move messages from one folder to another. Where they go, they seem to be stuck there. I do not even get an error message, it just does NOTHING.

I am running XP and is Outlook Express 6. PLEASE HELP! Thank you.

Sounds like a virus of some sort  !! The only thing I know to do is run a virus program!! Sorry can't help more

Sounds like what happened to me last week. I could not do anything, not even get offline without pushing the button and shutting down. I tryed everything I knew (an thats not much) anyway I had to take my computer in and he had to take everything off it and reinstall it all. I didn't have any virus or anything.

He told me what was wrong but it was like in one ear and out the other

Well I tried EVERYTHING last night! I tried system restore a few times, and it never let me...said it cannot be done. I also tried starting in safe mode and deleteing that way, but then when I restarted in regular, I had the same problem. I must have rebooted 10 times at least, and nothing mattered, nothing worked! Finally one last attampt at deleting emails froze me up again, so I got mad and said some choice words and shut 'er down for the night..."illegally" again, I might add. This morning I turned it on, ready to begin the fight again, and lo and behold, it all worked PERFECTLY, like nothijng was ever wrong! Mary Lou said it probably needed a break from me!

: :bgrin I am VERY happy thought that it was only a break it needed, and nothing more serious!! :aktion033:

Mona, what email program do you use? I use Netscape and a few times in the past, I have had problems that sound like what you describe. I think if there is a way in your email program to regularly tell it to "compress" the inbox and sent box, that may make it less likely to do this again.

Jill, I use Outlook Express, and it does compact...and I even did that last night too! I swear, I thought of everything and tried it! I think that I actually know what caused it, but have no idea why it would not fix last night, yet fixed itself by morning.

I had just finished downloading a bunch of Norton updates.(it does this automatically) When you are done, there is a button to click on that say "OK" to restart your computer so it can take effect. I was busy working so never clicked the OK button. In the meantime, by my trying to delete a bunch of old emails from the sent folder (like over 1200 of them!) it froze, forcing me to shut down illegally. I think it had something to do with the Norton thing, and I even went to the online thing to run a scan to see if I was suseptible, but I was fully updated, so that was OK. I was going to uninstall the Norton, but then I remembered I have no disk, since I renewed my subscription online and they send you what you need by email or through a link, so I didn;t want to uninstall and then be stuck without anything, so I decided to wait until today, as it was getting late and I was tired, and CRANKY after all that! So I was sure suprised to see everything working just dandy when I booted up this morning! Ahhhhh, the simple pleasures in life! :bgrin
