I had written aover then summer that my mini mare lost her front top teeth. No big deal after I knew she hadn't broken them. Well now my 3 1/2 yr. old gelding has decided to grow his new teeth. He's got his 2 top and 2 bottom front teeth coming in about 1/2" behind his baby teeth. Should I be worried? He's eating normally, I don't show so if his bite is off that doesn't bother me. I was just wondering if I should have a dentist out to pull the baby teeth out?

All I can tell you is what I would do--and yes, I would have a competent equine vet see the horse ASAP. The 'permanent', adult teeth are supposed to TAKE THE PLACE of the 'baby' teeth, not be behind them--I believe you would run the risk of the adult teeth becoming firmly situated in the wrong position in the mouth if the 'baby' teeth aren't 'out of the way', so to speak.
