Last night my MinPin started acting kind of "wobbly", but I wasnt too concerned...in the past he was diagnosed with degenative disc disorder and altho he has never had a full-blown attack, he has shown signs of his disease, so i thought he was just having an "episode". Well, I woke up early this morning (not sure why) and he is now almost completely paralyzed!! He can not stand on his own at all. All 4 legs are affected and he won't even try to move. I tried to take him out potty and he cant even stand to pee!! He did whimper when I picked him up, so I think he has feeling in his body, but no use of his legs!

I dont know what to do!! I mean, of course I am taking him to the vet, but is there something I can do beforehand and be honest....do you think it is "bad news"??? He is an older dog and he does have this disease, so I am not going to have the vet try all these heroic effertts on him, if the outcome will be the same (or not well). Iam just sick!!! I LOVE this dog; he is my "baby boy"...

Linda, I am so scared for you. I'll pray for your sweet doggy.

Thanks Tia and Sonya!!

Trying to prepare myself for the worst, but at the same time I need to stay composed, because I have to go to work (at least til my boss can come in)...which sucks!! I will be bringing Gunner with me, because I just can't bare to leave him here alone when he can't move! It breaks my heart, because he has this look on his face like he can't understand why he can't move, yet he doesn't try either, so he is "accepting" it....OK, now I am crying again....

Linda, I will be thinhing of you and your baby. As hard as this is I know you will do what is best for him. Corinne

Oh.....I am so sorry your little baby boy is going thru this. How scarey this is for the both of you. I will be hoping and praying for the best....please keep us posted as to what the vet says.

This happened to both my sister's Sheltie and one of my former boss's Boxers.

It turned out to be Myosemia Gravis (sp?) The canine equivalent of Lou Gehrig's

disease.

I am hoping it turns out to be something not nearly as serious for your little darling...

please keep us posted.

Sending good thoughts your way.

Shelley

I'm so sorry, I hope things will improve but look into his eyes and you'll know. Hope comes with my prayers.

Oh Linda,

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I will say that my dog has some hip problems and once he could not hardly stand to use the bathroom due to the pain. This was the only time he ever tried to bite me, and it was due to the pain. He would wimper much like your dog, and only try to stand if I forced him to. He also was in so much pain that he would try to releave himself. I managed to get him into a kennel carrier and the vet assistant and I carried him into the exam office in the kennel carrier. After all, an 80 pound dog is just too much for me to lift alone.

Also, I would think that if you have a disc problem, that maybe that could be putting pressure on his spinal column, thus causing issues.

In any event, I hope that your vet will be able to give you good news that your boy will be able to be treated easily with medicines.

And in the mean time, hugs and prayers for you and your boy.

I'm so sorry Linda.......

Oh I'm so sorry to hear this! I hope everything turns out for the two of you. We went through this with one of our dachsunds. She got jumped on by one of the other dogs and hurt her back. Its so hard when they look at you and don't understand what is going on. I'll be keeping you two in my thoughts today.

Thanks everyone....

I have him at work with me (he is laying in his "bed" all covered up with his blankies) and I've given him water with a water bottle cap by tilting the cap so the water drips into his mouth (he won't drink otherwise, even tho his head isn't affected). When I took him out to try to get him to go potty (he won't go), one of my coworkers came up and petted him on the head and he let him!!! I was totally shocked, since my dog is normally VERY protective and will bite strangers if given the chance!! He didn't even growl or anything!

I can tell he is scared by the look in his eyes, but he doesn't seem "ready" to go yet....I can see a will still there....or am I just wanting to see that?? :-(

The vet appt is at 245 today...couldn't get in any earlier.

best of luck at your vet visit today! thoughts and prayers going out for your little man!

I'm so sorry, Linda, for what you're (both) going through. I hope your little guy turns out to be ok. You are both in my thoughts.

Liz M.

I'd be going to another vet NOW. Your dog cannot eliminate? I would think that waiting for the vet appointment, then waiting for treatment could cause serious problems.
