You might want to start with joining the club in your area; Southern Miniature Horse Confederation. There seem to be a number of members from your state. Their web page can be located at http://www.smhconfederation.net/ .

There is not a lot of information on their web page but I did notice that they will be having a Fun Show on June 10th in Philidelphia. This sounds like a good place to start and get to meet other breeders in your state. With membership you will receive their newsletter.

Good luck.

The worst thing that has happened to me was at Nationals this year- my mare was showing me she was quite done with halter during the couple of local shows we went to and this was to be her last halter show- as we went into the ring and waited and waited.. it was finally our turn to do the walk and trot by.. i get past the first judge and then feel something grab my rear.. i actually stop and look behind me to see who would do such a thing... only to see the judges chuckling.. sigh my horse bit me in the butt how embarassing i realized it was her (as if a judge would feel the need to grab my big rear

who else would it be) and went on. she did end up placing in that class but wow guess she felt she would make her last show one to remember

Stacye, have you had a chance to contact the SMHC club yet?

Hey Happy Valley have I got news for you. My saddle club has been having mini classes for the last few years. (this is in addition to full size gaited/QH/ and speed classes). This past year we had miniature halter (we use 38" and under, just one class) and a cart class. Next year we are adding a jumping class (probably only 3 small jumps). We are just a club show and most of our judges know zilch about minis which can be disheartening to those who really have some of the better horses. But, I will say as a general rule the judging isn't really that bad. We are located in Holly Springs so it's not too far. Our shows start up first Friday night in april and we have 12 shows. We give great year end high point awards (top 5 for year) such as silver buckles, show halters, horse blankets etc. If you are interested, pm me.
