I have a 4 month old weanling being delivered next weekend. How do you quarantine the very young, and keep them from getting too stressed? She is coming from a small farm with a good health program. Do you think she needs to be completely isolated?

: I don't have any good advice for that one but..Ooooohhh I have heard about this new arrival of yours...please post pics! I want to see! :aktion033:

Maybe you could take a 2 week vacation and just play with it? Sounds like a justification to play hooky from work to me :bgrin

Well Suzie,

We are excited about our new filly! Here are a couple of teaser pics of her when she wes just 4 days old. I will post new pics and formally introduce her when she arrives!

Thanks, Karla!

I was thinking since she is coming directly from a farm with a diligent preventive health program, I might put her with a gentle mare for company for the first month or so before introducing her to the rest of the herd.

Any better ideas out there?

Congrats on your new baby!

I've also not quarantined certain horses, especially very young ones. I am not saying I don't recommend it, but to be honest, I haven't in similar situations and have not ever had a negative consequence.

Me? I'd just introduce her to the gang, insist they treat her kindly, then step back and see who will claim this lovely baby as her new best friend. She's so pretty!

Is her daddy from Windhaven? If so I met him in person when he was a baby. He was the sweetest foal and just FULL OF IT!

You wont have to quarentine her she is coming from a very good breeder! I bought a weanling from Michelle last year and I know everything on the farm is healthy! yOU CANT ASK FOR A BETTER PERSON TO BUY FROM.Who is her dame I might have her brother he is my future herd sire. lorie

Thanks for your responses, all!

Whitney and Lorie,

She is by Windhaven Little Heartbreaker out of Meltons Fantazons Xena, lovely horses, both.

She is the first horse I've ever felt comfortable buying without seeing her in person. Thanks for the assurance that she is coming from a healthy environment.

Lorie, Is your colt a half-brother? Sure would like to see a pic!
