Geesh I really need to stop rushing and get my head on straight

dufus award number 1

The other day i was having a really bad morning. So when i went to feed i was really distracted. I went to feed the donkeys and rescue mares in a seperate pasture. Noticed there was some really thin ice on top of their trough. So instead of undoing the gate and walking in I reach thru the electric fence. Put my hand in the water to knock the ice and my knee bumps the fence. wowwwwwwwwwwww now thats a shock!!! :new_shocked: stupid stupid

Dufus award number 2

last night my hay guy comes by with bad news. Hay truck didnt make it and will be a week late

I have enough to feed in the morning and thats it. So this morning i call around and find hay. Make fran go with me to pick up a truck load. Guy at the store assures us 40 bales will not fall off. Fran keeps saying she thinks it will. I make fran drive (LOL) and we go the back way home. sure enough bales start falling off the truck. Thank god no cars were behind us. We get the truck home, grab frans truck and go back and get most of what fell off. Neighbor comes over giggling and says "did ya lose some hay on the way home?" Yeah it should be all around thornville by now as its been 2 hrs.

shoulda made two trips duhhhhhh

thanks frannie for going on another hay adventure with me (fran and i have the worst time everytime we go get hay )

Do I win Marty??

Kay, I have done something similar with the fence. I was standing in a puddle of water, it was pouring rain and I reached in the fence to pick something up and the fence got me on the top of my head! OUCH!! I was pregnant at the time and I swear the baby did a complete flip...lol

Shannon :bgrin

YEOUCH! I got nailed by an electric fence between the shoulder blades once.... YIKES

And you know, we say a hay accident earlier this year. Flatbed truck piled with hay, and they hadn't secured it... went around a corner and blammo, hay EVERYWHERE. I've seen entirely too many trucks with unsecured hay driving around here, makes me nervous.

My Dufus moment with a hot fence.

I was putting water in the outside water tub. The hot fence had some leaves stuck to it so I put my thumb over the end of the hose to "power spray" the leaves off the fence. YEOW :new_shocked:

Kay, I don't know about the hay thing being worthy necessarily, but that electric fence and water one sure does get you my vote. I now have two friends to tease constantly (my other one stuck her hand in MOVING baler to untangle twine once... yeah, she will never hear the end of that one, luckily all she got was a nice long scar, and not the loss of a hand/arm/ whatever)... now you... girl, turn OFF the fence, or GO inside. LOL

Oh Kay, I too have had run ins with our electric fence, a couple of which were totally my not thinking, and it makes the shock all the worse for thinking it could have been avoided.

I think all of us who have transported hay understand that nightmare too.

i have the worst luck with electric fences. I just cant help myself!! i have to have a body part touching the fence. But I tell you what having one hand in water and then touching the fence YIKES. without a doubt the strongest shock i have ever had. Thought my heart was gonna come out of my chest. Now i know water and electric dont mix ughhhhhhhhhhhh

Atta girl!

I have a sad electric fence story too. Was standing in the opening with the gate open, wind caught it and it slammed me into the fence and SNAP! Butt and **** at the same time!

My husband and I got lazy one day and both stepped over the electric tape into the horsey area at the same time instead of using the gate thinking each other had turned the fence off. Yowza! You can imagine where we both got zapped.

LOL! I love electric fences. I've gotten shocked by them twice, both times on the back of my neck. Now, I'm either really tough, or I have no nerves in my neck, because I thought it tickled. I'm not sure what kind of voltage it was, but it was enough to send a 16.3 hh stallion jumping away from it when he brushed against it. Not only jumping, but he took off bucking across the pen until he hit the OTHER side of the fence, whirled around, and repeated. Took him 4 rotations of this to catch on.

LOL Poor Kay! I got zapped once across the tip of my big toe so I can only imagine how bad it was with your hand in water.

On the hay, you can not stack loosely bailed hay that high. Being so loose allows the bales to shift. He had to know that! I am sure he just wanted to make a sale. JERK!

Oh I was SO not going to admit this but man it has DOOFUS hanging all over it.

I have one too many horses, Tweets in a temp stall in the hallway, so I'm not able to drive my hay wagon into the barn this winter it has to be stacked.

Here I am at the top of a 12' stack of hay (100 bales). Located in the middle of the barn. Said stack of hay disintegrates beneath my feet. I quickly grab the rafter above me. Hang there for god knows how long reviewing my OPTIONS, until my muscles give out and fall luckily on the biggest lump of hay. To add insult to injury I have to restack the whole pile. I'm getting too old for this @#it. You would think after 25 years of haying I would know how to STACK!

Oh I am so sorry, I have to appologize, but I laughed so hard picturing you hanging from the rafters.

Whitney! :new_shocked:  :new_shocked: Oh my gosh, now THAT gets the doofus prize! That, Kay's story, and the one about powerspraying leaves off the fence all deserve special recognition. :bgrin

Now you've got ME curious! Marty -- cough it up!

My original comment was in regard to electrice fences and the Dufus Award!

I WON one of the FIRST........Let's just say....do not ever put your hand on a metal barn near a water trough, trying to kick some hay back under.......while in the presense of some visitors looking to buy horses! (You do NOT want to hear what came out of my mouth! LOL! )
