Well I just got off the phone with the office... I sent in a prefix reservation over the weekend as a B-Day present for raven.. and was told that the fee went up from 20 bucks to 100 bucks. she is 99 percent positive that it is to take effect as of today hmm so much for that present.. she will let me know today or tomorrow as she expects the phones to be off the hook on all the issues today if it is in effect ASAP although like I said she thinks it is..

Guess this is supposed to keep those from reserving things like common words.. although guess in reality it will only keep those like me single moms, or those working check to check from doing so.. the wealthy ones can still reserve all they want.. sigh I just cant justify spending 100 bucks on that.

I am glad they are making changes however.. I wish they let the general membership know that these things are changing and give us a bit of time..

oh well world doesnt run according to Lisa right

Wow, that's a big jump in price, & no warning at all! I had thought of reserving something as a suffix, but won't be now. For that price, and considering how few foals I'll be registering in future, it just isn't worth it.

You know, I looked through the suffix list on the AMHR site yesterday & made note of how many words there are that I would actually consider using in a name, and there were very few. I came up with only 10 suffixes that I would even think of using as names. All the names I have on my list of name possibilities for future foals have not yet been registered as suffixes--so I have to say that this suffix issue isn't as grim as it has seemed in previous discussions on here. I think I'll be able to name a few more foals without reserving a suffix of my own, and without resorting to goofy names.

Ouch, that price increase is going to leave a lot of people from getting a prefix  Know this hobby is basically for the rich but don't they want new members to have some benefits?

: This is one reason there needs to be a change on how things are voted in. Members should have the right to vote on issues such as this.

: Money doesn't grow on trees for many of us. Must have been voted in by those who already have their prefixes

Well, that kind of stinks! I'm happy I reserved my prefix already. Doesn't seem "fair" to jump it up so fast, on the other hand, keeps people from snapping up common word suffixes at only $20 a pop.

Thats an unfair out of the blue jump glad l did my 3 pre's and suf's a while back sure wouldn't do that at that price now..

I don't feel $100 is an unfair fee to register a farm name with a Registry.

I feel it is a bit more of a deterrent than only $20 to reserve a farm name 'just for the heck of it' and makes the purchase a bit more serious.

I was trying to get into the prefix/suffix list the other day but I forgot what the password to use is, can someone tell me please?

The price jump itself might not be unfair to some but what is unfair is that the membership had no prior warning for that kind of hike.

Lisa...I agree with you..its an awfully big hike.

Wonder why they just didn`t leave it at 20 and then ask for renewals every x number of years....that would generate cash and discourage those who just 'wanna' and give others a shot at some prefix`s or suffix`s they would like to use.

While I am at it...is there any possibility whatsoever that maybe the AMHA will ever have a B registry???? Does anyone know if that is even being considered???

I was at Convention and at the Board Meeting that approved this price increase. Please contact your Director for the reasoning behind this issue. Something needed to be done and I personally know that this is a hot topic and the board worked very hard on comming up with a reasonable and fair solution. Lets not just start throwing stones at the Registry and how it is just for the rich......

Side note: I am not a Board Member but after sitting in the meetings, let me say your directors DO work hard on all issues presented to them and they work for you, the membership. Please let them know how you feel on the issues.

Dont get me wrong it isnt really the price i have issue with.. it is more the lack of notice even heck 10 days or 5 days or even 48 hours -something just so those who wanted to had a chance before the increase is all I would think would be fair but like I said the world doesnt go according to lisa.. it is what it is..

those that now want to randomly pick things over and over so others cant use common words will at least have to pay alot more to do it now

So many people on this forum complained and complained and now the registry took action. You cant have it both ways!!!

I will say though that imo any changes made at convention should not go into effect until the entire membership has been notified by mail 30 days before the change goes into effect

Although I got mine years ago. I still beleive that they should of said something in the mag about it going up so that all the people would know on lajit names like farm and ranch names not just words. I can't see just reg. one word.

Thats sort of getting blind sided, if you ask me and very unpro of the Reg. to do that!

I guess the people that can't afford it now will just pray for a name for their horses and hope it goes threw!

Or will every horse reg, need to have a farm or ranch name infront of it.

I don't know why they make it so darn hard for new people just getting into mini and the people that can't afford it.

Its a real shame. Its all about the $$$ so it seems! Sad... really sad they did that!

I would have greatly preferred if the board had chosen to redefine the purpose of the reserved suffix, instead of just raising the price higher. The problem will still exist.

Lisa -- Your original post only mentions a price hike for prefixes..............not suffixes? The suffix reservation of common words by individuals was what the fuss was about here. Is is for both prefixes AND suffixes or one or the other?

I was at the convention & at the meeting this was presented at &voted on.

It was done for the benefit of the small farms (believe it or not).

This will prevent some (most ) of people from buying up a bunch of words & then re-selling at a profit.

The registry really does have the well being of it members at heart & i also think our directors all work very hard.

I know we all cannot go to convention but we CAN all make sure our directors know where we stand on certain issues.

it is for both a prefix and a suffix as well again it isnt the dollar amount they raised it to.. it is the LACK OF NOTICE for the general membership before it takes effect I object to

a motion to change prefix/suffix rule:

a) Wording from "similar" to "exact"

b) Set a time frame at which unused ones would be released

(except historical)

c) Raise the current fees to discourage frivolous purchasing of

prefixes/suffixes

Tabled until Saturday board meeting to allow for input at the breed

meetings.

Motion to guide committee discussions by pre-selected questions:

1) Should one person be able to purchase more than one

prefix/suffix?

2) Should the office be allowed to release them after a set

time frame?

3) Should the office raise the fee for prefixes/suffixes?

Motion to increase protest fees to $150 (instead of $50). Motion

failed.

Motion to increase protest fees to $100 (instead of $50). Motion

passed. .

This is the exact way this went down in the Board meeting and then All the Committee Chair's brought it up in their committee's and there was tons of very good points made for and against my members..

THE MAIN REASON FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE SO SOON WAS TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM RUSHING IN AND RESERVING EVERY NAME IN THE WORLD ON THE OLD FEE.

They had people saying that was what they were going to do. So that is why that happened..

We really did work very hard on this subject and I think it is not about being just for the Rich as someone stated . The way I looked at it a Legacy should be worth at least $100 , because that is what a Farm name can become.
