Maybe this is a dumb question, but we're wondering about it since the question has been raised--if you have a show with multiple judges, who decides on which of the judges will be the call judge? Does the show management decide that & inform the judges of it, or do the judges decide amongst themselves?

Does each judge act as call judge for a different division? Do they do it in rotation, so that every 3 classes the call judge changes? Or is one judge the call judge for the entire show?

I've just never paid any attention to which judge is serving as call judge for each class, and had never considered how the call judge is decided upon. So, I said I'd ask on here, as someone here will surely now the standard procedure!

If you have just one Big R Judge, they should be the call judge. Usually show management tells them who will be the call judge.

In my experience, it has been decided among the judges, and will rotate by division, although not necessarily exactly. Sometimes if a judge has a particular preference for a certain division, they'll be the call judge even if it's out of sequence in the rotation.

The judges usually seem to work it out among themselves at least at the shows I have done.
