My heel had been hurting for about 4-5 months,,,,,,,when it got to the point I couldn't walk anymore, I went to the doctor. Something I never do. I have 3 kids and did go to the doctor for them, but other than that, just don't go,,,,,,,mainly because I have no reason to go. One of those people who are always healthy and never ever take medication. I have taken anitibiotics all of 3 times in my entire life!

Anyway, I have been doing what the doctor ordered. Taking anti flammatory medicine, ice in a plastic bottle, exercises, shoe inserts, new shoes,,,,,,,,,and over the past 10 days it has just gotten worst.

As of today, I have more swelling, swelling has gone up into my ankle, my heel hurts not just on the bottom, but all the way around, have a shooting pain from the inside of my heel up the side of my foot to my big toe, my calf muscels are cramping, have cramping in my toes, and all and all, it's wearing on my nerves. If I walk it hurts, if I don't walk, it tightens up more and hurts more.

Leave for nationals in 2 weeks, my concern is the amount of walking I'll be doing, all on cement and how I can handle it better, what to do?

I feel like a wimpy gimp,,,,,,,maybe because I don't get sick, haven't had injuries.

My last post I found some with the problem in the past, got any other ideas? How do I get through nationals still standing?????

Do you have a foot store in your area?

Have you tried the insert that actually has a hole in the middle of the heel? I found when

I had a spur it helped a lot and I could actually walk without pain.

I wish I could offer some other advice. Funny thing, after that last post, my own heel spur has gotten much worse. It's still only at it's very worse after sitting for long periods, or getting up in the morning, but it's getting to the point I don't want to get up in the morning.

Thank heavens for the horses, they give me reason to get up and move.

HI there..my only advice might be the insert w/hole in heel OR the gel insert and bring a spare!

AND when you get back, get to the doctor and when you have time arrange to get it surgically removed!

I can honestly say I was unable to walk back in late 70's and had it removed and have NEVER had another problem with it (after the healing time of course)

I am now 65 and SO glad I did it, it's worth the trouble! These days it's probable an outpatient procedure:)

Good luck at Nationals too!

Maxine

Carolyn, When you find a new foot to order on line...let me know I would like to order a new knee...maybe we can get a discount for ordering 2 parts... :bgrin

: :risa_suelos: :new_rofl: I would try the insert with the whole cut out too. I'm another one who wont go to the doctors. Good luck at the Nationals. Corinne

Okay, you may not believe this, but I swear it's true, and it just happened this morning.

As my post above indicates, my own heel spur problem magnified intensly in the last few days to the point of not even wanting to get out of bed in the morning. Once I was out of bed, I could manage to limp through the day and get things done, but never without the nagging pain, just without the sharp shooting knife in the heel pain.

Well, this morning it was so bad I nearly fell just going to the bathroom, and I stood in the hallway and cried, and finally asked God to take away the pain. I am a believer, but I sincerely try to keep from asking for such favors because, in reality my life is good. Certainly not without stress, or problems, but good, and I'm happy, but I just couldn't take it anymore...

I kid you not... the pain went away!

This is in no way to say doctor's help isn't a good thing, or necessary, but I am so happy. The pain has not come back now for several hours, even after driving my son to work which is an hour round trip in the car which always produces close to the same sort of pain as getting out of bed when I get out of that cramped little shoe-box car of mine...nadda. Walking just fine, thank you very much, and thank God.

Everytime I have gotten up from sitting this morning not feeling the pain that usually accompanies such an act, in whatever degree, I have come close to tears in thanks for the relief.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox, and I don't mean to offend anyone, honestly, but I just am so happy, and wanted to share. Maybe, Carolyn,... just maybe--if you're so inclined... try that.
