My 10 year old daughter was watching when this critter showed up and she wasn't sure what she was looking at! LOL! It was blurry when I first saw it and then I was tickled to see it was a hyena! He hung around long enough to get a drink and then was gone in about 2 minutes.

Earlier in the day just before they switched the camera for the night we saw this guy.

The first critter is a hyena! Excellenct pics... thanks for sharing!

Oh those are so NEAT!!!!! I have not taken any pics, but tonight while I was watching, a deer of some sort came waltzing by a lioness that was motionless in the grass, and once it noticed she was there he hightailed it on out...with her in pursuit....too cool! Then the lioness comes walking back without anything...so guess the deer got away. :bgrin

I didn't see the male lion today. The only hyena I saw got a little close to the lions and he took off like a rocket when he saw them....with one of them pretty close behind.

I did get these shots of some lionesses.

Just spotted these! This is a single lion and looks older? He was at the watering hole until approx 2:40 am mountian time. Then the herd shows up around 3:05 am mountian. Close call time wise!

The lions killed another zebra yesterday. Guess that's why they were being so lazy around the water hole.

My Daughter and myself love this video. My question is: How are you taking the still shots? I cannot find a button to push or anything. Am I just dingy?

Thanks

This is what I did, I went to the link below and followed the instructions there. I believe Sunquest does it diferently without downloading anything. I actually already had the Snap program, so I just used those tips on that link to make it work for this.

taking pictures of the wildlife in africa

When you start using the software, you might get black images, to get rid of this, go to Tools (can be found by right clicking on the top of the media player) in your windows media player click, Options, Performance, Advanced and un-tick use overlays.

It's so easy, my hubby and two older kids (10 and 12) have been snapping shots as much as I have. We just leave the video on all day like a screensaver.

Here is what I wrote earlier on another thread on how I capture the picture. It is called doing a print screen. The button is typically located to the right of the backspace key on most keyboards that I have used. It is labeled as "prtscn".

There is a "prtscn" button on most keyboards. Hit this and it cuts it to your memory just like a "control-c" does.

Then just paste it to your picture editor.

Oh, yes, there is another trick to turn off overlays so you don't get just a black background.

Here is my post on how to turn off the overlays.

For those that want pictures and only get a black backgound when doing a screen print, I did find out that you don't necessarily have to download any program to take them and have them show up. I know that I use Windows Media Player 9 to view the cam through. When in Windows Media Player, click on Tools, then Options, and then on the performance tab. In that window will now appear a button called "advanced". Click on it. Now another area shows up and you want to look for "use overlays" or something simular to it. make sure that the checkbox is NOT checked. This should stop the black screens from happening. At least it did for my test last night.

Ok two questions...How do you get such beautiful colored pictures and second...How do you take the pics? I wanna play too!
I use microsoft paint and I use microsoft office picture manager. Once I have made a print screen, I then open microsoft paint and paste the print screen into it. This will paste everything that was on your monitor when you hit the print screen (prtscn) key. Now I typically save this whole picture and then open it in microsoft office picture manager so that I can continue to edit it, or I keep it in microsoft paint and then use the button on the left that looks like a dashed box to select only the part of the picture I want to keep. Then I go to "edit, copy to" which will save the selected area to your hard drive. At this point I go to microsoft office picture manager and complete my edits. Typically I try the auto correct to see if it improves the color any. If I like the results then I keep it. If I don't, then just reopen the file and export it as a .jpg so that I can upload. If I chose not to edit it in paint, then I use microsoft office picture manager to crop the image and resize it if necessary. This is just what works the easiest for me. I have actual photo editing software, but to lazy to use it. But I so like adjusting the color quickly if I can.

Hope this helps! I may just have to check out what Steph uses!

Thanks for sharing with us how to get the still shots. I will be trying this today, after I get ready for the predicted storms!!
