We have a gentleman with a 14 year old 35" bay gelding that needs a new home in Ohio. He is very broke to ride small children but has unfortunately foundered. He does not have alot of rotation in his hooves. He also has cushings and has to take meds for it. He has been very well taken care of but the owner has big horses and they are picking on this gelding.

I will be bringing him here to my farm in the coming weeks unless we find him a home before then so that he only has to be moved once.

Let me know if anyone out there has room in their heart for this sweet boy

Kay -

I am one of the Admins on the Yahoo Cushings site - let me know if you would like me to check there for you, too.

I'll do whatever I can to help. Unfortunately have experience with founder and have metabolic issues. I'm between Dayton & Middletown.

How wonderful of the man to search for a new home.

He most likely foundered because he is IR (insulin resistant). With proper diagnosis, strict diet (low NSC feed only) and proper hoof care, he could live a long, healthy life.

As you know, I have experience with Cushings/IR/founder. I will be honest and say that I cannot voluntarily take another Cushings horse; it just broke my heart and I can't handle that level of emotional pain right now. But there may be people on my Cushings site that can help. Let me PM the site owner and ask for permission, first.

Thought I'd bump this back up. He sounds like a wonderful horse and it is wonderful that his owner cares so much to want want is best for his situation. Kudos to him.

I remember when you lost your beloved mare Liz. How lucky your mare was to have you.
