Last night just before 10 pm I took a peek at Aurora on the camera. I had been keeping an eye on her but as she wasn't due to foal till March 20th I wasn't keeping a really close eye on her just yet. I had been watching for signs of foaling but she didn't present any. When I looked at her last night she was down with a red bag coming out. I jumped into my boots and ran for the barn. By the time I got there the foal was completely delivered and still inside the bag. I ripped it off and picked him up by his heels and slapped his sides, stuck my finger down his throat and tried AR on him. There were no signs at all of life. He was a beautiful black and white pinto colt with high white stockings on the back, little white socks on the front, a big flash of white on either side of his barrel and a little star on his forehead.

I gave Aurora a couple cc's of Banamine and took care of the placenta and foal. She is doing fine and eating and pooping well. She has only a tiny bit of a bag that came up last night and doesn't seem at all uncomfortable. I think this is a case of God knows best but I am still very sad that I couldn't bring you better news.

Such sad news...for all involved. Unfortunately, sometimes no matter how hard we try, terrible things still happen. :no: My heart goes out to you, Bob and of course Aurora.

So sorry for the loss of Auroras baby... He sounded lovely. Sounds like a premature placenta separation , maybe there was an infarct that caused separation. Was there a dark spot on the placenta? She may have had something cooking in there.

We are all saddened by this news but Mother Nature knows best sometimes.

It just wasn't Aurora's time to be a mom.

{{{Hugs going out to Aurora, Lori & Bob}}}

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this for all involved. I agree with Lynn that it may well have been an infection causing the red bag and likely having her go into labor early. Prayers to everybody.

Oh, what sad news... hugs for everyone involved....
