We're frozen up here today. It's about 22 degrees. The wind is so strong that I swear that it woke Jerry up during the night and he said the house was moving. I really believe that. But the barn isn't!

We only have about 3" of snow and that's enough to keep us imoblized.

It's a solid sheet of ice.

Fell once into the side of my truck making my way to the barn to feed. Tried to keep from slipping. Geesh. No harm done. My jacket is really soft and poofy!

It didn't freeze inside the barn, whew! It's about 37 degrees in there. That amazes me because we did not finish the insullation or get the hot water up there yet. But the water didn't freeze at all either! YIP YIP YIP!

Can't get anyone out today. The barnyard is completely iced over and they'd slip and fall.

That's the good thing about having stalls that are plenty big enough for their comfort and open so they can visit eachother. They can run around in them too. Merry Beth loves to buck in her stall when she sees treats coming. I turned Timmy loose in the isleway. Timmy also did his laps in the isleway. Varooooooooooooommmmmmm Then he didn't want to be caught. He went from stall to stall to kiss everyone over the door. He even kissed his daddy. He loves his daddy a lot. He and Nick had a bit of a scratching fest on the necks. It was so cute.

I'm feeding them small amounts of hay several times during the couse of the day to keep them busy and amused.

I already did a super grooming on half of them. Will do the other half later after SCI-FI. Love those Saturday scarry movies.

Brought out some hot soupy beet pulp too.

They have the radio on and are listening to "soft rock."

I finally quit playing the Christmas CD's but I know they might miss them. But soft rock is good for them too.

It should warm up on Sunday and melt all this away and turn it into mud. I'm going to put some tails up in a bag. I really hate muddy tails.

We're cozy.

Said a little prayer this morning in the barn thanking God for Jerry again on building this barn.

Marty you live on the wrong mountain. At 6:30 this morning it was 35 degrees but with the windchill it said 27 degrees and we only got a dusting of snow. All my horses are out having a ball. :bgrin

Ohhh, Marty, that sounds so cozy! We haven't had a temp under 70 during the day for at least a month. I miss the true "winter". Make some soup....lay under a blanket...watch TV....

It may sound crazy, but I am jealous!!

Sheryl I thought you'd have it worse up there on the plateau. Weather man said Crossville was bad too. I'd tell you to come over but you couldn't make it on my roads. We is stuck.

Come git me outta here tomorrow!

Let's go play. :bgrin

Marty and Sheryl, you guys have to come up to CANADA where it's warm and sunny! It's windy today, but there's virtually no snow, and just hovering around the freezing mark. Supposed to be in the high 40's by Tuesday. I'll make room for you if you want!!

: Know how you feel Marty. We live with this on and off all Winter, and no we're not moving South. Can't take the heat in the summer, but sure do envy you the warmer Winters. Must have been a shock to have to deal with it.

You be careful girl on that ice! Strap some sandpaper onto bottoms of your boots:) Maxine

Marty,

Just east of you we got it too... My weather bug says it is 30 degrees right now.. been snowing off and on all morning.. very muddy at the barn.. YUCK!! horses, goats, sheep, and our huge pyr wants to stand in it, and then when you come out they all want to jump on you to play with them.. :new_shocked: poor hubby is working today and has to be in it.. so I am making him a nice warm beef stew... oh it smells so good! Perfect for a cold day like today

I would like to add it was 60 degrees yesterday!!!! This is unbelievable weather in it's self

It looked like a blizzard had hit town here in Middle Tennessee last night at 8pm, it didn't stick

: no accumulation at all.

It snowed off and on all night long and we got nothing but very gusty, COLD winds. Set out hay this morning before we left for work and made sure that the shelter was nice and cozy, now as for them staying in it, that is another story... :bgrin They never like to be pinned in.

Went from 60 degrees and sunny yesterday which is unheard of here in Ohio to 30 degrees and super windy with snow , I'm not impressed at all. I am thankful for the weather we had the last few days though, it was wonderfully warm and I got a lot done outside. The downside to the warm weather though is it set off a mass heat in all the mares, geez! I could turn one of the boys out NOW and have a lot more 06 foals right in time for Christmas!! :new_shocked: Nope, that AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

We have been unusually warm this past week with temps in the 50's and yesterday it was just over 60 degrees and sunny! What a beautiful day that was! We hardly ever get this warm in January! Then early this morning when we went out to feed the horses it was raining and much cooler out and then the rain changed to snow and we now have 2-3 inches on the ground and the temps are down to 27 degrees right now!

My parents live in Crossville, I talked to them this morning. Mom said they got a bit of snow but not all that much, there were heading to town and dad had no trouble getting out to feed his goats, must just be on top of your mountain. They also didn't get any ice, but then again the area is so big different things happen in different places.

All I can say about our weather is it's WET! We've been wet since November and I'm totally sick of the rain and muck! They said we were going to have a warm, wet winter and they sure were right this year. When we do get a break in the rain and maybe half a day of sun/clouds it looks like I have a field of dead horses! They all lay flat out like "yeah, sunshine". Oh well, February is usually better.....I hope.

i bet your glad you got all those shavings down now,

Marty, you've got to get off that Mountain and into the valley...and those horses want bluegrass or country..Rock music gives them ulcers..

: Do you all know that Marty, lives above the Sequatchie Valley which is the Hang Gliding Capitol..Aside from its astounding beauty, Southeast Tennessee's Sequatchie Valley is one of the most unique valleys in the world. One of only two "rift valleys," the other being the Great Victoria Valley in Africa, the Sequatchie Valley was formed by giant shears as the plateau literally split apart - giving the valley its memorable shape. Over 125 miles long from the Tennessee River to Crossville, Sequatchie Valley never exceeds 5 miles in width. People come from all over the world to hang glide and probably hunt and chew a little "sang"..But no snow down here in Knoxville but the horses love it..it's 38 degrees with a windchill of 26 and they are running and bucking like crazy..It was 58 yesterday and 65 the day before and suppose to be 55 tomorrow..It makes me nervous that maybe this will cause the horses to get sick...or us..Stay warm Marty spring is in the air.. :risa_suelos:

For the past month we've been unseasonably warm here--lots of 28-37F days where the normal for this time of year is more like daytime highs of 10F--and we've had fog/rain/freezing drizzle/snow flurries nearly every one of those days. We haven't had any major accumulations of snow or ice & I've had no problems at all with icy roads, so I'm not complaining about the mild weather!

However, today we do have a winter storm advisory in effect. Starting about midnight tonight we're supposed to get freezing rain, and it's not going to quit before tomorrow afternoon, maybe evening. Further north they'll get snow/ice pellets. This is a low pressure system moving in from the west/southwest & at this point they can't say for sure which way it will track--we might get the freezing rain, we could get the snow....I'm hoping it pretty much misses us completely & we get nothing more than some freezing drizzle. But, just in case the forecast is right and we get 6-12 hours of freezing rain we're doing some baking/cooking this afternoon, and filling some water tubs--if the hydro goes out we'll be as prepared as we can be.

Its in the 50's here, but so WINDY, gusts up to 40 mph, supposed to get a freeze tonite, I don't know how you guys do it. I HATE the cold. I'm going back to my fireplace and football/basketball. Kathy

I was just in Louisa, VA. High winds and cold. I come home and the winds are much worse, it's raining, snowing, power was out while we were gone and it's getting really cold. 60's yesterday and it's 30's right now and dropping,

It's no wonder we are all sick around here.

Very unseasonable 53 this afternoon with torrential downpours. Frost coming out so fast tar is breaking up in some places. Two days ago it was in the 20's and we had ice everywhere. Today its 53 and torrential rain and thunderstorm. Tonight changing over to snow with high winds and back to 20s by morning. These drastic changes surely scare me as it was during one of these drastic changes last year that we lost the only foal we had due for last year. There was no cause found in the necropsy except that the weather had changed so drastically in a 24 hour period. Just praying it doesnt cause an abortion this year. Watching mares very closely.
