What is wrong with people?

Even if there was some type of explanation, such as life or death of a human, you can call for help for petes sake. I just dont get people.

I couldn't get the story to load but I can't imagine abanoning my horses! The driver was probably drunk and didn't want the cops to see him. Grrrrrr...some people!

That is terrible!!! My thoughts were similar to Sandy's -- that the driver was drunk, or maybe had warrants out or something else bad

The first thought when I read your post was: they are stolen. Someone has lost their wonderful horses unnecessarily only to have them hurt and left along side the road. People can be so vicious when all they care about it the almighty dollar. Possibly the trailer was also stolen.

How horrible that they left the horses. P robably were stolen or those people shouldnt have been pet owners!

I hope they find them and lock them up!

I'm thinking: Could this possibly be the one that was stolen in Indiana (I think lotsofspots posted for her friend) It could be worth checking into. That is NOT that far from Indiana. It could be someone on a cross country stealing spree. I don't know how it could be checked. I think I'm going to call the one in Indiana and tell her about it. If she had a friend post for her she maybe doesn't belong to the forum and doesn't know about this.

The trailer should have a license plate and could be checked with the dept of transportation for ownership. Unless that was stolen, too. Can't imagine how people could be so cruel and callous as to leave the horses.

More than likely the "humans" were in some kind of trouble, already!! No excuse, just probable fact.

I'm wondering how it happened that they were able to drive away

most of us tow, and you know that when that trailer goes, so do you!! Strange that the vehicle was able to separate at all!! I'm guessing the hitch wasn't connected/closed, or ball was smaller than hitch. Anyway -- that is a peculiar happening.

When found, they need to receive similar care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOPING the horses will be ok..........anyone heard?

From what is said on another board it seems that Kentucky doesn't require horse trailers (utility trailers, which would include horse trailers) to be tagged, so I suppose that's why they aren't able to trace the owner on this trailer. Seems weird to me, since here horse trailers must be licensed and insured.

There don't seem to be any further updates on the condition of the horses so far--wish they'd issue a report on how the horses are doing. Also wish they'd find the person or persons that left them there.

I called the lady in Indiana that had her horse stolen and told her about this on the chance that just MAYBE there was a connection. She called me back and said she called the number I had given her and was told they were full size horses in the trailer. So were not hers, but worth a call to find out.

She wants everyone to know she is very thankful for everything that anyone is doing to help her and for all the comments and calls she has recieved. They have a few theories that they are thinking about and hopefully she will get her horse back.

As in some other states, NM doesn't require a license plate on *every* horse/livestock trailer, so there may be no help there in IDing the reprehensible culprit.

One of the greatest cutting horse mares EVER, Poco Lena, was actually abandoned in a trailer along with another horse-a gelding, I think-many years ago. As I recall, some guy had been hired to drive them back to Texas(?),from a cutting in CA...and he got stopped along the way, got drunk in a bar, just left the horses. They were finally discovered after something like FOUR DAYS of standing in that trailer w/ no food or water. Don't remember what happened to the other horse; Poco Lena lived, but was SEVERELY foundered, and crippled by that almost beyond belief. I was ASTOUNDED that she was actually BRED twice after that, to Doc Bar, I believe, to produce two foals. I saw video of her and one of the foals, and couldn't BELIEVE that anyone would be so crass as to put the mare through carrying foals in the condition she was in...She was finally euthanized after the second one(both went on to become 'high-powered' cutting horses, I believe-which of course, is what the owner was after)...bottom line is, it's ALWAYS about the money, it seems. Nowadays, of course, embroyo transplants would be done--at LEAST saving a mare such as this fine campaigner the PAIN and SUFFERING of going through pregnancies in such a condition. To me, there is a SUPREME irony(and perhaps, some karma?) in the fact that it has now been discovered that a terrible malady, known as HERDA(you can look it up, re: Quarter Horses), seems to 'run' in some of the mare's line, apparently via her sire, Poco Bueno, and his, King P-234-and thusly, in some of the 'hottest' cutting horse lines. (Don't get me wrong; I rode and LOVE cutting horses, and think that today, the ONLY breeder I would go to to look for a QH would be a KNOWLEDGEABLE and EXPERIENCED cutting horse breeder, as they appear to me to be the only ones producing horses with the conformational features to be sound ATHLETES....)In any event, I would have LOVED to be the one to administer some 'justice' to the guy who left those two horses to endure such a horrific ordeal!! Hope those who did this will be caught and suitably punished, as well!

In Texas, we have to register and have plates and tags on our trailers. There should be a vehicle identification number on the trailer unless it is home made. (or has been rubbed off) That would help trace the trailer.

My first thought was like some of you...the horses must be stolen. My second thought was that the people responsible must not have experience with hauling a trailer because you know we would have checked and double checked our hitch. Makes me feel ill that the horses were left like they were.

In freakin credible that some one could do this to an animal. Leave it wounded and trapped by the side of the highway. How long were they there alone, scared, wondering what was to become of them. How would they like it if we were to do something like that to them. Hmmm, maybe they need to be trapped in a police van or something like that. p***es me off ARGH.

Sad as this is to say, my first thought was it was done on purpose. Since all the slaughter houses have been shut down, people are turning their horses loose when they get old or can no longer take care of them or for whatever reason they don't want them or can't keep them anymore.

I know the slaughter house issue is a hot one. I did not mention it to start a big discussion, just pointing out a fact.
