I need to get a show halter for my foal. I hopefully plan on showing her next month but I have no idea what size halter to get her. She has a small petite head. She should mature around 32" if that helps on size. When I look online at sites that sell show halters they only go to x-small. I dont know if that means they are for foals or not. Can anyone help me?

Thanks,

Alisha

have you measured her head to see how many inches from each point the halter would go to is? There are some websites that tell the inches for the different sizes, obviously not all brands go by the same exact measurements but they are usually close.

These are the measurements I got off Star Lake Tack for their BKM halters:

Measuring for a BKM Halter: These halters come in 5 sizes. X-small 6” x 17”, Small 6 ½” x 20”, Medium 7 ½” x 22”, Large 8 ½” x 24” and X-large 9 ½” x 27”.

Hopefully someone out there knows who sells something smaller than a 6" nose? That size fits most weanlings, but I've got a yearling this year that wears that size, so he obviously looked like a little kid playing dress up in grown up clothes at his weanling futurity

Does the Star Lake site include instructions on how to measure? Alisha, in case you don't know, you measure from cheek bone to cheek bone going over the bridge of the nose (which would obviously be the 6" measurement for an XS) and cheek bone to cheek bone going up over the poll (the 17" measurement).

Yes the site did give instructions on how to measure but I dont like them because they say to measure 3" or something like that from the corner of the mouth and depending on the size of the horse that could be way off. also I wouldnt go from cheekbone to cheekbone either because that is not where you want the ring to set it is usually like one or two fingers between halter and cheekbone but depends on the horse again. I just go from where I would want the ring to sit on one side to the same point on the other side both over the nose and over the poll for both measurements.

Judy Thanks. I was wondering how to measure. I will try to measure her head and see. Hope I can get her to stay still long enough to do it.
