Hi Devon, How about some gymkhana classes like the egg and spoon race or a relay race where you have to run with your horse to a certain spot, then walk backwards with your horse to a barrel pick up an item from the barrel and race back to the starting line, pass the item to the next team member who does the same thing all over until the team has finished and the team with the fastest time wins.

I saw this at a show and it was so funny but I don't know what it is called. We are having it at our open show this year. I will try and described.

Large storage container filled with shredded paper and baggies filled with some sort of treats whether it be human or horse or some kind of little prizes. Set in middle of arena. Handler and horse must run to the tub kneel down and pick up a baggie using your mouth only, get up and run back to the out gate. Never can you use your hands other than to handle the horse. This was a timed event I believe. Everyone got some sort of treat (prize) and it was just too funny.

Musical Saks

Lay sacks in a circle enough for all horses entered. Everyone stands on a sack. Play music when it stops you must find a sack to land on and can only go forward. That sack and horse/handler gets removed each time until there is one horse left.

Catalog race is good. You give them a page number, they run to a barrel with a catalog or phone book and have to tear out that page and run back. This is a timed event and they are DQ'd if they tear the wrong page.

Musical chairs with horse in hand.

:aktion033: Devon! Does this mean you are organizing a fun show for us?

I've got lots of ideas written down (similar to Yvonne's suggestions)

so ask me next time you are out .....whoo hoo! Winter is lookin' better.

umm lets see...

egg stomp- where you run down to like a bridge and have your horse stomp on an egg and then run back

pop chug a lug- where you run down to a barrel drink some soda of some kind and then run back

in hand barrel, poles, and flags

costume

egg and spoon race

what about the three- legged race??

I put on a Fun day for my Morgan Horse club. We had the typical halter classes. Then we had a trail class but you lead the horse through the obstacles. We had a gate, backing through an L, walking over a tarp, side pass over a pole and then at the end put an egg in a spoon then walk about 50 feet and drop it in the bucket. We divided the class by age. Young and Young at heart. We had trotting barrel racing and pole bending at a trot. We had people take their cart horse through it.

The prizes were bags of horse treats. I got the fancy bags at the dollar store the type you get for a party, gold pipe cleaners to twist it shut. The horse feed was donated by a local feed store. We got a product called TACO which is a large pellet that is timothy, alfalfa, corn and oats.

We had so much fun, at it was a really relaxed day, no show clothes allowed. We are planning on doing another one this year.
