She had a complete torsion of her bowel. Hubby came home and found her circling her lot. She was staggering but at the same time her hind legs were somewhat stiff. He took her temp...105. He started hosing her down a bit as the temps here in N.C. have been horrible. She fell and didn't get back up. Called vet immediately. She palpated her and could feel the twist. I'm not made of money and could'nt afford surgery. So we opted to put her down. Vet said she was so far gone that she didn't even think she'd make it through surgery. I'm just in shock. And to top it all off, she left behind an almost 2 1/2 month old colt. He's eating grain good but he's so young. Vet said he'd be fine, to get some milk replacer pellets and add to his feed. He's our only foal so no buddy for him. I'm just so sick over this. This is the part that totally stinks about owning horses......losing the good ones. She was the sweetest mare. She was my 2 year old daughter's "leadline pony". 38" and not show quality but we loved her to pieces.
RIP Bopper
Thanks for listening. I don't post much. But notice how you all are so concerned when one has sadness or hardships with their "babies". Just had to vent.
