i am devastated. Tiny is so sick. This came on so fast and the vet is racking his brain trying to figure out what it could be. Started late monday night with loose stools and some rolling. Then yesterday she was better but not eating much. Last night she seemed even better. This morning I took her out to walk her in the grass and she took 3 bites and went down shaking. Couldnt get her up called the vet. He got here in 15 mins thank god. Shes in mild shock and her temp is only 97. Took blood and he said he couldnt see any fat in it but is rushing it to test. Should have results by noon. He was trying to come up with anything that would cause these symptoms but cant think of anything. Filled her up with antibiotics and banamine. so now we wait. im so scared. Tiny is my special girl and the first horse ever born here. Please pray and if you have ever heard of these symptoms please tell me

My prayers and light are coming fast, keep us updated when you can.

My horse acted that way a few years back when they had a bacterial infection in the stomach

I hope you find out what is wrong

Kay, I can't think of anything but copied your post and emailed it to my vet. He's awesome about getting right back to people so maybe he can come up with something.

Kay, This sounds exactly what happened to Alfie a few months ago but because of the cold weather he also ended up hypothermic and coliced on top of it all because he went down and was completley soaked with mud when I found him. He was fine and playing in the afternoon but by feeding time at 5:00 pm I could tell immediately that something was wrong from the way he was standing. By the time I got to his paddock, he took a few steps towards me then collapsed.

Like Lisa's horse the vet assumed it was some kind of gut infection and he put him on injectable antibiotics and tube rehydrated him every day, sometimes twice a day, with biosponge for the next few days. It did kick it but he was one very sick little boy for about a week. Soft to runny stools preceded it as well but it was nothing alarming when it started. I hope your vet finds out what's wrong and can get her on the road to recovery immediately. Will definately keep you and her in my thoughts and prayers today.

Oh no, I am sooooo very sorry. There sure seems to be a non-stop run of bad luck this year with many of us having a turn. I am sending prayers that they can quickly find out what the problem is with Tiny, and get her well FAST!

thank you guys so much. i just came back in and shes the same. head down to the ground and cold. we keep rubbing her and rubbing her to get her temp up. just gave her some warm electrolytes. the low body temp is what is throwing the vet. he said normally you would expect to see a fever. gut sounds are good. ughhh. just wish the blood test was quicker. hopefully some of these shots will kick in. she doesnt act like a colic at all but she did have surgery 17 months ago

I don't have any ideas about what could be wrong, but sure do want to send some big hugs and wishes for full and speedy recovery for Tiny. I am praying for you both.

Oh my gosh, Kay.

Sending prayers and good wishes for you and Tiny!

I have no experience with these symptoms, but wishing with all my heart for a speedy recovery!!!

Is she drinking water? I dont think you mentioned anything about water so just a reminder to keep an eye on that so she doesnt dehydrate.

Kay,

I am so sorry to hear about Tiny - is there a possibility that she could have a twist - those are very painful and can cause horse to kind of freak out and still poop from pain, but all that is passing is what is at the back of the system. Don't like the sounds of the low temp, shocky attitude - seems like it is some kind of poisoning which of course a twist will cause from dead tissue. Also adhesion are a big possibililty if she has had surgery before - I have a mare that had colic surgery as a foal and 4 years later exhibited signs of colic that we couldn't completely resolve, so back into surgery - sure enough the interior was full of adhesions - they are bad news.

I hope that you find a speedy answer and that Tiny is back on the road to recovery soon.

Hugs,

Stacy

im worried now it could be adhesions from her previous surgery still no call and shes not good at all. i feel so helpless. the vet feels sure its not colic but i keep thinking its all related. at my wits end

Kay with the weather around all of us could she have gotten into something that had mold on it? This sounds like what we went thru a few years ago. Down, low temp gums off color and diahreah.

kay kay ive nothing to offfer but my thoughts are with you, i hope tiny gets sorted soon
